Rebuild Afghanistan Summit 2008

 (San Rafael - September 17, 2008) The Bay Area's fifth annual Rebuild Afghanistan Summit will be held Sunday, Oct. 12, from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the Dominican University in San Rafael.

Keynote speakers will be Dr. Nake Kamrany, USC professor in economics and author of more than 20 books and articles on Afghanistan, and Emmy award-wining news anchor Dana King of CBS 5 in San Francisco. Dr. Kamrany's talk will offer resolutions to four major issues troubling Afghanistan: security, poppy production, economic development, and law and justice. King will give a talk about her travels to Afghanistan, and address some of the issues afflicting the country today.

The yearly conference aims to illuminate the critical work being done in Afghanistan. Organizations running programs in the country face daily struggles to keep their institutions afloat and their staff safe. By providing a forum where aid workers and activists can introduce and discuss their efforts, the summit organizers hope to strengthen the work being done in Afghanistan and spotlight the country's struggle for peace and stability.

In addition to the keynote speakers, leading nonprofits will give presentations about their work for change in Afghanistan and the challenges they face. The summit will also include workshops pertinent to the current situation in the Afghanistan, networking tools, vendors, and food.
